Everything That’s Ever Happened in the Right Wing Blogosphere Distilled Down Into One Beautiful Perfect Incident

Fig 1-A: In which the Right Wing Blogosphere is portrayed by a hapless moth and Reality (with its Well Known Liberal Bias) will be played, in a special guest appearance, by this garden bug-zapper.

Now, Barack Obama made an error in relating the story of his great uncle’s role in the liberation of Buchenwald concentration camp at the end of World War Two:

“Speaking in New Mexico on Memorial Day, Obama said a great-uncle had helped to liberate the Auschwitz death camp at the end of World War II. ‘I had a uncle who was one of the, who was part of the first American troops to go into Auschwitz and liberate the concentration camps,’ Obama said… He continued: ‘And the story in my family is that when he came home, he just went into the attic, and he didn’t leave the house for six months. All right? Now, obviously something had affected him deeply, but at the time, there just weren’t the kinds of facilities to help somebody work through that kind of pain.’”

“That may be a fact, the RNC noted gleefully — but only if Obama’s uncle had served in the Red Army of Joseph Stalin, which liberated Auschwitz on Jan. 27, 1945.

Obviously, like Hillary’s sniper fire and George Bush’s National Guard service, this was all a big lie, then? And the Republicans were going to get gloating rights forever and ever?

Sadly, No!

Obama’s campaign said yesterday that he had erred in naming the camp but not in describing the role of his great-uncle, who partook in the liberation of Buchenwald. ‘Senator Obama’s family is proud of the service of his grandfather and uncles in World War II — especially the fact that his great uncle was a part of liberating one of the concentration camps at Buchenwald. Yesterday he mistakenly referred to Auschwitz instead of Buchenwald in telling of his personal experience of a soldier in his family who served heroically,’ Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton said in a statement.”

But of course, Right Wing bloggers Dan Riehl and Steve Gilbert of Sweetness and Light, never ones to let the truth or anything else ruin a good “Gotcha!” moment, decided that the best, most funnest thing to do down there in that hole of theirs was to keep digging.

Riehl compadre Steve Gilbert of Sweetness & Light did some digging and discovered there is a website dedicated to preserving the history of the 89th Infantry Division of World War II, the division in which Obama’s great uncle served and helped liberate the Ohrdruf satellite of the Buchenwald concentration camp. Seeking to get to the bottom of a mystery that had been solved hours earlier, Gilbert dutifully fired off an email to the site’s owners, Ray and Mark Kitchell, thus setting up the greatest bitch slap in history:

Are you ready for this? You’re so not ready for this. Here goes Gilbert, who’s like a dog that can’t stop sniffing its own ass, pre-congratulating himself for being the first to call into question Obama’s uncle’s service (and writing to a total stranger whose ideological leanings he knows nothing about, I might add):

Subject: Any Record Of Charles W Payne?

Mr. Kitchell,

As you may have heard by now, Barack Obama has claimed that his great uncle Charlie Payne was a member of the 89th Div that liberated Buchenwald.

According to records his full name is either Charles W Payne or Charles T Payne (most likely the former), and he was born in 1924 — and he is still alive today.

He most likely was from Kansas at the time of enlistment.

Do you have any record of this gentleman?

Thank you,

Steve Gilbert

PS - If you go to my website, you will see that I was probably the first to note the error in Mr. Obama’s first claims about his “uncle.”

The response?

Please crawl back under the rock you came out from.

Good day

Raymond Kitchell, veteran 89th Inf Div

Hahahahaha!!

Ahem.

The end.

Great post! If you read the whole thing on sweetness-light and some of the comments, it is very clear that they are determined to cast Obama as a liar. No interest in the truth if it isn’t the same as their preconceived notion.

    Blergh!

And catching up very late to last night’s discussion about first concert: my first was Bill Haley and the Comets (Rock Around the Clock) at a company picnic at my dad’s company in the mid or late 50s.

I’m sorry, but this is not limited to the right-wing blogosphere. I went round and round with a Hillary supporter on this issue. Here is part of our exchange:

Me:Sorry, this was a genuine mistake. You know, kind of like calling people evil before they check their facts. His great uncle didn’t help liberate Auschwitz…It was Buchenwald. Oooh, roast that black man.

Her:he’s a moron that can’t get anything that he speaks of right. Of course his campaign is going to say he made a mistake. What else would they say? That he’s trying to use historic events falsely?

Me:Oh ok. That bastard was trying to make it look like his great uncle helped liberate Auschwitz instead of Buchenwald. How dare he do such a thing? That uppity negro must be up to something.

This went on and on. You see, it’s the SAME THING when Hillary pulls something out of her ass as when Obama makes a genuine mistake.

We’re in real trouble folks when “Dems” are acting like Repukes.

Jesus if you go over to Sweetness and Light those clowns were discussing Nazi “workcamps” vs. “deathcamps” as if comparing Motel 6 to the Hyatt.

Eisenhower himself ordered US soldiers to tour facilities we liberated like Buchenwald to steel his men in the last stages of the war when they were destroying cities in house to house to fighting while killing old men and 15 year olds in Wehrmacht uniforms.

He also forced Germans to tour the facilities and bury the dead so they’d never be able to say “we didn’t know.”

This is starting to really blow up in the rethug’s face. Look at the top of this page:

This is a nonpartisan site. But now the rethugs have pissed all of them off.
