Wonderful

(Circle Jerks, “Wonderful”, only clip of it I could find)

So, there was all this noise about how Hillary Clinton should release her schedule from her years as first lady. She did, and what’s the first thing our noble, inspired, and high-minded press corps did? Flip through looking for the dirty parts like sixth graders finding their mom’s Judith Krantz novel under the bed.

G2:

It just isn’t possible for this country to have a more depraved and wretched press corps. After spending months haranguing Hillary Clinton to release her schedule as First Lady — based on high-minded demands that open government is important — this is what ABC News “investigative reporter” Brian Ross did with the documents today (h/t Susie Madrak via email):

Hillary Was in White House on “Stained Blue Dress” Day Schedules Reviewed by ABC Show Hillary May Have Been in the White House When the Fateful Act Was Committed

Hillary Clinton spent the night in the White House on the day her husband had oral sex with Monica Lewinsky, and may have actually been in the White House when it happened, according to records of her schedule released today by the National Archives. . . .

Oh, you know, I was kind of supporting that nice Mr. Obama for the nomination, but now that you mention it, I think I would so much rather spend the next four to eight years watching the media work themselves into a froth over whether Bill clipped the end off that famous cigar and whether Monica swallowed or spat.

Susie Madrak:

In all my years in journalism, I’ve never seen anything quite as disgusting as this.

And I know some of you will snicker, because it “only” hurts Hillary Clinton.

And you would be wrong about that.

The enemy isn’t Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama. It’s the corporate media.

And if we let them get away with this, they will do even worse to whoever turns out to be our nominee. You can bet on that.

I left a voicemail for ABC News’ Brian Ross, who is the head of their Investigative Unit. His phone number is 212-456-7612.

I suggest you share your opinion of his “work.” You can call him, or you can send an email message here.

Sweet! I would love to talk to Brian. I’m going to ring him up right now.

Oh, but wait, Glennzilla thinks there’s a thing or two you should know about Brian’s resume:

Brian Ross spent many days in October, 2001 screeching on every ABC News show he could get on that government tests showed that the anthrax sent to U.S. political and media figures was linked to Saddam Hussein’s biological weapons program. That was a lie from the start; no tests ever revealed any such thing. His sources told him that because they wanted him to do just what he did — create the perception in the public’s mind that Iraq was behind the anthrax attacks. When that turned out to be false, he never retracted it, and, to this day, refuses to reveal who his sources were who fed him that extremely consequential lie.

So remember to mention that when you call. Ask if he’s willing to go on public record identifying his source on the bogus Anthrax story. Ten bucks says it was someone in the office of the Vice President. Not that he’d tell you.

Greenwald:

UPDATE II: AP now has an even longer and more detailed article on the same subject, promoted by The Huffington Post’s front page, which begins: “Hillary Rodham Clinton was home in the White House on at least seven days when her husband had sexual encounters there with intern Monica Lewinsky, according to Sen. Clinton’s schedule.”

Dude. Glenn. It’s HuffPo. Let them run with it if it amuses them. Every column inch they take up with stuff like this is less space that they end up devoting to Hollywood producers’ wives blogging their raw diets and their appointments at the colonic irrigationist, or, you know, a new twenty paragraph screed from some random Baldwin. As salacious and puerile as this story might be, a day with fewer articles on high colonics is not to be sniffed at.

But you were saying:

This is the line they insert to justify their low-life vouyerism:

It’s unlikely [Hillary] would be surprised at this late date to learn that the president was cheating on her while she was home in the White House. But the release of the documents reminds voters anew about Bill Clinton’s affair and the impeachment proceedings that brought Washington to a halt for a year.

Note the passive tense — the release of the documents “reminds voters” of Bill’s affair with Monica Lewinsky. But who will be doing the “reminding”? The sleazy press corps. This is the standard media manipulation tactic when they cover petty, vapid gossip and then want to justify it: they assert that “voters” are interested in it and then self-referentially point to the reporters’ own fixation with the gossip as proof that people are interested. See, they had no choice but to point this out — it’s not their fault — because it’s newsworthy, since the “the release of the documents reminds voters anew about Bill Clinton’s affair.”

Oh, you know, because for those of us who lived through it the first time and the 24-hour, non-stop coverage , there are still so many unanswered questions. Is this how you want to spend the next four years? I mean, even if Hill-I-Am was a good candidate, would it be worth this?

Fortunately, she isn’t, and I think that soon this is going to be a non-issue again, except that we’ll be stuck with the same group of schmucks who spend their weekends lining up to lick John McCain’s nut-sack and beg him for table scraps while they pretend to report the news. Whatever, one thing at a time, I guess.

Are you surprised at all? Really? Calling these wankers emotional 6th graders is an insult to 6th graders.

What cracks me up about this is they are making it out like Bill was boffing Monica in the livingroom while Hil was in the kitchen of your average starter home. The White House is a big place, even if you only include the private residence. Throw in the public spaces and offices (Oval and others) and you get some serious square footage. Not that that in any way absolves a cheating husband, but this is a horse that has been beaten to nothingness. There’s not even a greasy spot left in the road. And yet, there the MSM is, still flailing away.

If they want to dwell in the swamp, let them as it says volumes about them. i’m more interested in Hillary’s ties to the Family than whether she was home while Bill was getting his knob polished

Great post, T. There are sooooo many more things going on that demand attention (McSame’s ties to crazy preachers, the economy is tanking, our Constitution is in tatters, among other items) and yet the MSM wants us to concentrate on old stale crappola.

    Hi everyone! And Betsy, ygm.

i for one am much more interested in answers to the urgent questions i have about Shitter Vitter’s childhood traumas and why the truth about Mickey Kaus blowing goats is being suppressed. I think animal rights organizations should get involved. Think of the kids!

I enjoyed Moe taking the piss out of Kaus in this morning’s “Crappy Hour”:

MOE: The thing that really gets be about Mickey Kaus saying, “Can we not talk about race? Please? Why the fuck would I want to talk about race?” is that DID IT EVER OCCUR TO YOU MICKEY THAT THERE ARE 30 MILLION OR SO PEOPLE WHO REALLY DON’T GET THAT CHOICE? Who never get it ever ever ever? Who can’t escape that conversation, even if it’s all inside their heads and they repress it like some schizophrenic Condi character, because it never goes away? Because, you know, Mickey, if this thought didn’t occur to you, I was about to say you should go back and read more books, but that makes me sound like a standard fare liberal ideologue, so instead I’ll just recommend the movie Something New.

    That’s my girl.

Actually, I think even Republicans would realize what jackholes they sound like if they acted like Mickey Kaus. He, unfortunately, has no such qualms.

Of course! The tractor tipping scene is hysterical. I’ve been corrupted by little boys who think potty humor is the be-all, end-all. We’ve watched the DVD so much it is wearing out.

    Hey all - whatzup?

The juxtaposition of the AP story details about Hillary and her WH schedule and all that other Bill stuff and the above political “cartoon” (somehow calling that political statement a cartoon seems ridiculous) has messed up my lil’ brain. :(

Sigh. I wish we could get the press’s priorities to match the reader’s (voter’s) - well, at least most of the readers.

The UK Guardian had a story out earlier today, but it was not about this. It was about what she was doing relative to what she is claiming she was doing as “experience”.
    http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/mar/19/hillaryclinton.uselections20081
same story running on March 19 and 20, just a different headline.
19th - Clinton a long way from the White House at key foreign policy moments

20th - Hillary Clinton missed key presidential moments
    · Papers cast doubt on claim of first-hand experience
    · First lady was often far from scene of negotiations

    Didn’t take too long.
For our press, it was “shiny object over here” time

We saw it the summer it came out, while visiting at my mom’s. We went to a teeny bohunk theater and were the only people there for the afternoon matinee. The little guy didn’t understand that we couldn’t keep playing that scene over and over, like he does with his favorite DVDs. Amazing how a non-reading toddler could figure out how to navigate a DVD menu to get where he wanted to be.

At the toddler age there is much to be said for waiting for the video. And you don’t have to deal with the over-priced snacks and ill-timed trips to the potty.

But it is time for bed, paperwork to finish up tomorrow and domestic chores need doing. Good night all!

    House That Hate Built
    –Josh Marshall

I often find it quaint when Republicans go after anyone for hateful rhetoric or race prejudice when it’s been a major pillar of GOP coalition going back more than forty years.

The co-founder of Laura Ingraham’s radio show who now helps run Hugh Hewitt’s ‘Salem Radio Network’ has mixed an Obama video interweaving Obama with Malcolm X, the Black Power salute at the Mexico City Olympics and Public Enemy’s ‘Fight the Power’.

Saxby does indeed need a strong challenger. I concur the fisa issue is one anybody following politics should have been able to address.

Marshall’s wikipedia page needs expansion. Just education and political career outline. Nothing re: what he’s been doing for a living, his causes, his family, etc. His web page is also bare-bones.
