I Picked the Wrong Week to Stop Sniffing Glue

Cue up the theme from “Jaws”:

On last night’s “Countdown,” Keith Olbermann announced that tonight he’d be delivering another of his “Special Comments” — his impassioned, angry monologues fueled by outrage and usually addressed to President Bush and the Bush administration. Tonight, his special comment will be directed at Hillary Clinton — and, for the first time, his special comment will be directed exclusively at a Democrat.

Does this have to do with what Aunt Geraldine said after her tenth brandy yesterday?

The last special comment was last month about the FISA walkout; but tonight, for the first time and in the heart of the presidential campaign, it will be about Hillary Clinton, her campaign, and how Olbermann feels about exactly what cards she’s been playing (hint: It has something to do with her not firing Geraldine Ferraro for her controversial statement saying that Barack Obama wouldn’t have been as successful if he weren’t black. Last night Olbermann called Ferraro’s statement “clearly racist” and likening the Clinton campaign to South Africa under apartheid for not rejecting it and firing her. Okay, that’s more than a hint.)

Ah, I see that it does.

I’m shaking the tip jar for EschaCon expenses today, gang. See below.

I believe all of that primary coverage has gotten to KO. He can’t stand too many more hours of sitting next to Chris Matthews and hearing Tweety’s irrelevant chatter. If he (KO) can bring Hillary into line, it may all end.

    apologies for the OT …

No worries. But on the subject of apologies, isn’t it a good day to not be a Clinton apologist? Each day that passes makes me happier that I chose to back Obama after Edwards.

Oh yes. NDFG. I’m there all the time. Easy to schedule. Been in Cabo and trying to ignore politics. I’m thoughly disgusted with it all. I’m ready to write in Trex.

Fun! Went on two trips with the teen center but today we’re on base. We’re designing a mural that will be on the wall outside the director’s office and we can paint it tomorrow or Friday. or both.

    And I had my awake-over at a friend’s house.

But my mp3 player is broken.

Perhaps Aunt Betsy will send you her mp3 player. /snark

Like a sleepover, but no one really sleeps.

gawd, I dunno. I have an old college friend I’ve been e-mailing with who used to be an Edwards supporter — indeed, used to be a SANE progressive — and he keeps defending her! They don’t even see themselves as apologists. Perhaps they’ve all just cracked under the stress….or maybe it’s some form of “kidnap victim” syndrome.

Hey e - “I’ll bet $89 million USD that Olbermann’s SC this evening will prompt a “misogyny” tirade over at — well, you know.”

Does this mean he might be “banned” or at least ignored “over there”? (nah, ignored is too slight) Sounds like he’d be in very good company! Right? ;)

    Not taking that bet!

I don’t think there will be many who will be able to ignore this SC. Too many people agree! The Clinton Campaign will do their best to ignore, but do you think they will have to field any questions about this afterward? I sure hope so - could be some fun to watch that! Get out the popcorn!

    :D

Oh - I am so happy that I did too! I wonder about a couple of my friends, though, who went over to Clinton (on the day of the Nevada caucus, no less. When I asked why not caucus for Edwards “I didn’t think he could win”. Seems a bit of a poor reason to go to Clinton so wonder if there is any buyer’s remorse. I may ask, but would rather have current feelings volunteered.)

oooh. Randi Rhodes is going on again! She is pissed at Ferraro and the Clinton campaign’s race baiting. She is mentioning the vote results in Miszippi. AND providing a history of Ferarro. Uh Oh.

I may stay at my little home office this afternoon afterall! Until at least after Randi’s show is over! That will work for me. ;)

    Big surprise.
    From the news. http://talkingpointsmemo.com/
The Bush Administration apparently does not want a U.S. military study that found no direct connection between Saddam Hussein and al Qaeda to get any attention. This morning, the Pentagon cancelled plans to send out a press release announcing the report’s release and will no longer make the report available online.

The report was to be posted on the Joint Forces Command website this afternoon, followed by a background briefing with the authors. No more. The report will be made available only to those who ask for it, and it will be sent via U.S. mail from Joint Forces Command in Norfolk, Virginia.

It won’t be emailed to reporters and it won’t be posted online.

Hope a few people got a copy before it disappeared.

This on top of CentCom Admiral Fallon’s resignation. I sure hope he lands in a place where he can talk and be very productive.

Afternoon everyone! Home from work and I see that Spitzer has resigned. No surprise there. looking forward to the SC from Olbermann tonight, which of course will be spun that he is biased and not to be taken seriously. Whatever.

Got your e-mail thank you, T. Happy to contribute, only wish I could do more! I also have issues with people doing nice things for me. Seems like it wouldn’t be that hard to just accept with graciousness and thanks, but somehow I just can’t. At least I don’t go into an ironing frenzy :). I gave that up years ago, I never buy anything that must be pressed or dry cleaned. I iron so seldom that once I had to get the iron out and the big kid had never seen it before and wondered what it was. He was about 5 at the time.

The Bush Administration does not want us to know anything that would cause independent thought that might take us from their party line.
Too late! There are a number of us out here who can think for ourselves and don’t buy the b.s. anymore, if we ever really did.

Finally. I found the name of the study, who did it, etc. Here is a link.

Study by the Institute for Defense Analyses under contract to USJFC.

Okay, I want to get this off my chest before KO goes all ballistic on Hillary. True, I like Hillary, but I have been thinking this for a while.

Keith is losing it. His campaign against O’Reilly has descended into a jejune spitting match. I think that the attack on Billo for the use of the word “lynch” was over the top. Nobody complained when Clarence Thomas used that word.

There are lots of examples of Keith moving from reporting to commentary, without acknowledging it. And his top 5 stories seem to always include at least one Brittany Spears type fluff.

Hillary has never hedged about the fact that Obama is a Christian. Will KO attack her for that? Undoubtedly, he will go after her for Geraldine Ferraro’s statement. But is it fair? For one thing, the woman was the Dem candidate for V.P. Let’s use some caution before we throw her under the bus. Second, her health is very poor, and some compassion is in order.

It is bizarre to think that a man with the talents of Barak Obama wouldn’t be a success in life no matter what his color. But I must say, it is a terrific thing that America may turn the corner on racism, and seriously consider a black man for the highest office in the land. Yes, that will be a great achievement of Barack Obama, no matter who gets the nomination. And if voting for Obama will hasten the day when racism is over — I say, go for it. (Andrew Sullivan did, to not much notice.) You might be agreeing with some of these sentiments, and if so, are you really that far from what Ferraro was expressing.

He will go after Hillary for her statement that McCain has crossed the threshhold, but not saying the same for Obama. She deserves to be criticized for this, in appropriately measured tones. Obama deserves criticism for some things, too.

With all of the primary/caucus votes cast, the Dem candidates are one-half of one tenth of 1 per cent apart. Face it: it’s a tie. While everyone is revelling in the fact that KO is attacking Hillary, let’s remember that not so long ago Repubican voices were the only ones heard on TV and (expecially) on radio. Can the only person to present an unabashedly liberal voice afford to turn off half his audience?

    More secret sh*t!

    http://rawstory.com/news/2008/Justice_Department_says_legal_opinion_on_0312.html
The Bush Administration’s Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel is refusing to turn over a document providing its analysis of Bush’s justification for executive orders.

Responding to a Freedom of Information Act request from the Federation of American Scientists, the office said the document was “classified.”

No big surprise. Everything in this administration is classified or will be reclassified if the info becomes “inconvenient”

This reminds me of my favorite — and only — ironing anecdote, which I have probably bored y’all with b4 but will gleefully do so again.

The husband irons; I do not. (I used to, when I was young and wore wrinkly-type stuff.) Anyway, when my daughter was about 5 she saw me ironing ONE time and said, “But Mommy, I thought only MEN did that.”

    More media bias vs. Hillary:

MSNBC crawler says: “Hillary loses one super-delegate with resignation of Eliot Spitzer.”

The new governor of NY, is the new super-delegate, and he is undoubtedly going to support his Senator.

Big Mitch-yep, KO goes after O’Reilly all the time. But really, the man is a non-stop pile of shit, so it doesn’t really bother me. And he should ahve gone after him for the “lynch” remark. It was way over the line, and BO knew it, that’s why he said it.

KO makes fun of the Brittney stuff all the time, don’t know if the producers require a certain percentage of “fluff news” or what.

Hillary was very clever with the Christian comments. She was sure to slip in a “so far as I know” qualifier. Just enough to plant a seed of doubt, which was the point after all.Is it fair to go after Ferraro? Absofreakinglutely. She is a big player in the Clinton campaign. If this were a one time thing, and she either clarified or apologized that would be one thing. But instead she re-iterated the same racist BS, and then tried to paint herself as a victim of racism. Please. I know she broke a glass ceiling, but this is not the first time she’s made these sorts of comments. Power lost her job a few days ago for calling Hillary a “monster”, these comments from Ferraro are far worse, and she is still on the campaign. These GOP style games Hillary is playing make her look bad, and if she does win the nomination it will not be to her benefit to alienate a big chunk of her potential voters. It’s a short-sighted and stupid path for a smart person to take.

Yes, there are far fewer left-leaning voices than right-leaning. does that mean that the ones who do have a platform should shut up and not push back? As to KO potentially turning off half his audience, the tactics Hillary is using may just do that very thing to the voters in November if she’s the nominee.

Ferraro news. She finally admits that she is working for the Clinton campaign on the finance committee and quits the finance committee and plays the victim too — ALL AT THE SAME TIME.

    http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/
Geraldine Ferraro steps down from her position on the Clinton finance committee, saying in a resignation letter that “the Obama campaign is attacking me to hurt you. I won’t let that happen.”
