Guess Who Got Canned!

Okay, okay, everybody. Enough with the emails! Yes, I know that my old nemesis Melanoma Miscarriage has been fired from her job at KSFO.

Melanie Morgan — the conservative radio talk show host who chairs Move America Forward, the group which has led efforts to shame and boycott Berkeley for its anti-U.S. Marine Corps recruiting stand — has lost her job at KSFO 560 AM.

Morgan, 51, delivered her final broadcast there today after 14 years at the microphone, she says in a news release. KSFO owner Citadel Broadcasting decided not to renew her contract as part of the company’s announced across-the-board financial cost cutting.

Ha ha! Apparently spewing deranged, bloodthirsty hate speech isn’t quite the easy money racket it used to be. KSFO are in the direst of dire financial straits.

Citadel Broadcasting today (Feb. 29) brought home a very bad report card and the big guy, chairman of the board and CEO Farid Suleman, says things are going to change. And change fast — beginning this week and over the next two weeks. It could get ugly.

Let’s go to the numbers first: Citadel had a fourth quarter net loss of $848 million, or $3.24 per share, compared with a net loss of $1.1 million on a penny a share during the same quarter in 2006.

Dude. A net loss of 848 million dollars? No wonder they took away Melaprop’s “big megaphone“. I’m surprised they didn’t ask for one of her kidneys.  I was going to ask exactly how a person gets fired from a station their husband owns, but I guess we already have the answer to that question.

If there’s a hero in all of this, kids, it’s Spocko. He was the one who realized that our most effective weapon against the AM radio screamers is their own words. It was one of those simple acts of genius, really. Life handed him an excess of Right Wing bile and he figured, hey, there’s an awful lot of this stuff lying around. Let’s put it to use!

And damn if it didn’t work. Melanie Morgan?

Spocko’s father just passed away and my deepest condolences go out to him. Perhaps he has a new angel pulling some strings up there with Teh Big G.
