Oh, Look, a Drawing of the 2008 “Gathering of Eagles”

“Support Our Troops” by Mr. Fish

(From Harpers, via C&L.)

Some pictures are worth a thousand words. This one’s worth a million. People like (eugh!) Melanie Morgan make all this noise about how they “support the troops” by sending them Right Wing books to read and boxes of cookies, when what they really need to send them is tickets home to their jobs and families.

Military Suicides are Up (Way Up)

1 in 8 Returning Iraq Veterans are Suffering from PTSD

Health Care for Veterans is Still Wildly Underfunded

Lack of Proper Funding and Equipment is Still Costing Soldiers Their Lives

The Government is Still in Denial About the Virulent Strain of MRSA Infecting Soldiers and Caregivers Along the Casualty Chain from Iraq

But meanwhile:

Republicans are Seeking to Slash VA Budget for 2008

But worst of all, really, is this news:

BAGHDAD (AP) — Anti-U.S. cleric Muqtada al-Sadr may let a six-month cease-fire expire as soon as Saturday, a move that could send his Shiite militia fighters back out on the streets and jeopardize recent security gains that have led to a sharp decline in violence.

Yeah, the Surge? We’ll see how it holds up when the other side actually starts fighting back again.

The only real way to support our troops is to bring an end to this war.

Funding the war is killing our troops.

Period.  End of story.

Yep. And yet the meme continues unabated: Dems are soft on terror, Dems hate the military, be afraid-BOO! The GOP has done everything they can to totally fuck up this country’s capacity to deal with any military situation. They play with soldiers like they are toys, to be used up and tossed aside when no longer useful. Fuckers.

I think the number regarding PTSD is slightly sugarcoated. Yes, it is true that 1 in 8 have been diagnosed with PTSD, but the real number of soldiers affected by the disorder is more like 50%. This is especially true (if not higher) among those returning from active combat zones.

But hell, in a hundred years, when the Shia and Sunnis stop fighting, stumble over all the missing WMD while bear-hugging each other in the middle of the desert, and we are enjoying all those “The war will pay for itself in six months” benefits we so justly deserve (?), St. McCain’s corpse will rise from the grave to give all us liberals the finger.

During a total lunar eclipse, it’s hard to tell which satellite you’re shooting at.

N.B.: This post contains no snide remarks about Don Juan McCain boinking a lobbyist.

Speaking of Melanie Morgan and cookies, did you know the company that Move America Forward uses to send cookies to the troops is owned by none other than Ron Rogers? Wait, Ron Rogers? Of Russo, Marsh & Rogers, the PR firm that started Move America Forward? Yes, that Ron Rogers.

So, when you buy cookies for the troops through MAF, you’re not just supporting the troops, you’re making one of MAF’s founders a little richer. USA!

That’s Ron Rogers, Chief of Staff for corrupt Republican Representative, John Doolittle, btw.

Isn’t the Gathering of Beagles fronted by Kit Lange who “cut aand ran” from the military after 4 years of active duty, AND in a time of war? I could be wrong and please correct me if I am.

I’ve been browsing for a very long time, trying to find something very special in Internet. It’s hard to imagine, how much time I spent searching for sensations. I have tried to find something interesting and not very serious, just to enjoy reading it. I can’t believe that I’m finally here and that I found everything I was looking for. Interesting information, interesting people. That’s exactly what I needed.
