And There Was Much Rejoicing Throughout the Kingdom

Or not.
You know, I thought the hubbub over Huckabee’s Iowa victory in Righty Blogistan was funny, but that was nothing compared to the hairballs being retched up in some quarters pursuant to last night’s McCain victory in Florida.
Take it away, Roy!
SAVOR THE MOMENT. McCain takes Florida, and the National Review folks try to make lemonMcCade. “‘Nominee presumptive John McCa…..’ Sorry, I can’t say it. Not yet,” weeps Michael Graham. “So it is over. Finished. In November, we’ll be sending out our most liberal, least trustworthy candidate vs. to take on Hillary Clinton—perhaps not more liberal than Barack Obama, but certainly far less trustworthy… I’m off to climb into a bottle of Bushmill’s.” At last, something we can agree on!
“I’ll shut up after this post,” says Kathryn Jean Romney, “but Romney has been ON since Michigan. It may prove — it may have been proven tonight — to be too late. But this guy speaking right now, is hitting important issues, making you feel good about America, as you should…” There’s some sad things known to man, but there ain’t too much sadder than — oh, what am I saying, she’s hilarious. Love ya, K-Lo.
You, know, we need an adjective in English that means a combination of “pathetic” and “hilarious”. Pa-larious? Lopezian?
You all need to get right on that, because I think that this election year is going to provide us with many, many people, places, and things that require just such a descriptor. But, back to Mr. Edroso’s excellent recap:
“McCain’s Reading from a TelePrompTer. And he probably shouldn’t. It’s a stilted read and makes him look old. He’s much better off the cuff.” This from Jonah Goldberg, showing his usual grasp of historical events.
Oh, right, you mean like his, “Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran” joke? Yeah, Jonah, off the cuff, Cap’n Mac just slays. Like, literally.
Election 2008: John McCain claims his temper is not an issue. “I don’t think I would have the support of so many of my colleagues if that were the case.” Who are these supportive colleagues?
They certainly do not include Sen. Thad Cochran, R-Miss. Over the weekend, he announced he cannot endorse his colleague for the White House and is endorsing Gov. Mitt Romney instead.
“The thought of him being president sends a cold chill down my spine,” Cochran said. “He is erratic. He is hotheaded. He loses his temper and he worries me.”
That’s what we need in the White House alright, a hair-trigger hothead who’s verging on senility and listens to Joe Lieberman for advice. Yee-haw. Is Iran a smoking black hole on the map, yet?
He got in the grille of Sen. Richard Shelby — an inch away from the Alabama Republican’s face — after Shelby voted against the 1989 nomination of John Tower as defense secretary. “I was madder than hell when I accosted him,” McCain admits, half boasting.
“In his world, it’s very difficult to have a simple policy disagreement,” said American Conservative Union chairman David Keene. “Everything becomes personal. His position is right, and everyone else’s is basically evil.”
Lest anyone think McCain, now 71, has mellowed, he got in another altercation just last year. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, got full frontal McCain over an immigration bill, according to reports in Roll Call and the Washington Post.
McCain, who supported amnesty for illegals, accused his colleague of making a “chickensh**” argument to try to sink the bill. “F*** you!” McCain shouted at Cornyn during the negotiations. “I know more about this than anyone else in the room.”
Delightful. America needs more bellicose, swaggering dickheads with all the sense that god gave a head of cabbage.
Of course, no one seems to be taking it worse than Princess Paxil, the Aryan (on the inside!) Avenger, Michelle Squawkin’:
Well. We hear what he says now. But we know what he has done for years:
Insult the base, trash the base, and pay lip service to the base only when it suits his needs.
The declaration that he is the “conservative leader who can unite the party” is yet another smack in the face to those who have watched him reach out and slap conservatives time and again…
Ooh! I want that gig! Where does the line form?
But questions like this remain: How can McCain honestly reach out to conservatives when he defends his extremist campaign Hispanic outreach director who doesn’t believe in borders and when he boasts a national campaign finance chair and soft-money mogul who poured millions of dollars into the fight against English-language instruction in California, Planned Parenthood, and radical environmental fear-mongering groups?
We know that Juan Hernandez is McCain’s Hispanic outreach director.
Who is McCain’s conservative outreach director?
Because god knows:
A. Hispanics can’t be conservatives, right, Michelle?
and
B. What the hell is McCain thinking giving jobs in his campaign to immigrants, legal or otherwise? That outreach job should have gone to some decent white dough(y)boy from the Minutemen, shouldn’t it, Michelle? Those dirty spics, they’re little better than animals, coming over here and taking jobs away from real Americans who speak English!
Malkin from 2003: During my book tour across the country for Invasion, this issue came up time and again. In the Southwest, everyone has a story of heavily pregnant women crossing the Mexican border to deliver their “anchor babies.” At East Coast hospitals, tales of South Korean “obstetric tourists” abound. (An estimated 5,000 South Korean anchor babies are born in the US every year). And, of course, there’s a terrorism angle.
The time is ripe to reassess drive-by citizenship and what it means to be an American. Alas, given the huge chasm between elites and public opinion on immigration, while it’s safe to say that such a referendum would pass just as overwhelmingly here in America, it will never come to a vote in the first place.
Given that her mom came to America “heavily pregnant” and delivered an “anchor baby” of her very own, you’d think Michelle would be a little less hateful toward other immigrants’ children, but apparently she feels that some immigrants are clearly better than others.
Do you suppose the cognitive dissonance ever gives her headaches? Makes blood shoot out of her nose and ears? Cos that would be awesome to watch.
It’s a shame that we’ll never get to see that on live TV now. Tsk. Tsk.

I used to say it would be a disaster for the country if GW Bush was elected. And look, voila, it was. So now I’m thinking either McCain or Romney would be a nightmare. And I mentally start with, “Worse than Bush?”
It’s as if having been abused for 7 years, I just expect it to continue and look at the relative level of being fucked. This is the behavior of an abused spouse.

Hm. I think it was TBogg who pointed that out at first. Can’t remember now. The important thing to bear in mind is that Malkin obviously believes in her rights as an American citizen born to foreign nationals. The fact that she thinks Mexican immigrants and Korean immigrants shouldn’t be afforded the same rights and privileges is just evidence that she has absolutely no shame, self-awareness, or sense of irony.

Indeed. I just have to wonder sometimes where it all ends. Is she just going to march, screaming into old age about all the Damn Foreigners in HER country? Will she ever have an epiphany? Will her son turn out gay (we hope!) and fall in love with an Iranian man?
Actually, that last option is my favorite.

Oh, good f**king grief.
NYT: Tainted Drugs Linked to Maker of Abortion Pill
Dear NYT, what the F**K were you thinking with this headline?????
Now every goddamn Christianist pharmacist in America is going to tell every woman who comes in to buy RU-486 that “y’know, this stuff’s probably contaminated.” And some of them — the, oh, approximately 99.88 percent who won’t have read the entire article and seen that (a) RU-486 is made in a different plant than the contaminated drugs and (b) the plant that makes RU-486 got a passing grade from the FDA inspectors — might take that at face value and not buy RU-486.
You miserable SOBs. Wanna know why so many people have had it up to here with the MSM? THIS is why so many people have had it up to here with the MSM.
Note to alias: Please believe me when I say that my slam at “Christianist pharmacists” is not aimed at you. But I’m sure you know that there are some in your profession who let their religious beliefs get in the way of their professional obligations, just as there are far too many John Yoo types in mine.

Burns,
That version is rarely carried over here, mostly because most companies wont’ carry it. There’s another one out there called Plan B, which is a different drug to begin with. Plan B is also OTC as well, where RU-486 never even got that far. In the 4 years i’ve been behind the counter i’ve never seen RU-486 prescribed, just Plan B.
But yes, there are idiots like that. I have one fundie Pharmacist that i work with on occasion. He dispenses Plan B, but with a lecture. Usually that’s when i hold back the impulse to throttle the moron.

By Persiflage on Jan 31, 2008 1:12 am |
We used to have a version of Malkin here. He too wrote unintellegible screeds against the Asian hoardes. He too gathered a crew of devotees. There are differences of course. She gets paid to write, people got paid to remove his writing from the telegraph poles, bus shelters where they’d been glued. She stalks 12 year olds, he blew up Chinese restaurants. Her parents are not Caucasians. His father was Indonesian. She walks free, he, thankfully, is in jail.

Alias,
I don’t know what I’d do if a pharmacist refused to fill a prescription. Actually, yes I do, I’d scream long and hard and stamp my widdle feet to the appropriate authorities until the moron’s registration was cancelled. If a physician, after considering all the circumstances and medical ramifications, chooses a medication as being the most appropriate, then woe betide any person who places their personal beliefs between me and that medication.
Oooh, I’m obviously all revved up reading the Edwards thread.
