No, no, this really is the logo of anti-choice group “American Right to Life”. It is not a Stephen Colbert creation. It is not a spoof. Your eyes are not in fact deceiving you. It is a cartoon eagle, looking brave and determined, protectively clutching…a…fetus.
It was left in the comments over at this Jezebel post about how some extremist sect of uterus cops has deemed that Sarah Palin isn’t quite rabidly hateful enough to suit them and taken out a redneck fatwah on her.
For the Denver-based American Right to Life, when it comes to abortion, Palin is as impure as any godless feminist. “[H]er words and actions prove that she is officially pro-choice and stands against the God-given right to life of the unborn,” they write in a new report. ARTL members plan to educate reporters about Palin’s many alleged failings as a true believer, particularly her March nomination of a former Planned Parenthood board member to the Alaska Supreme Court and her refusal to call for a ban on the morning-after pill.
Now, given that these people have chosen to adopt the Fetus and Eagle (or as I shall forever henceforth know it, the FEAGLE) as their symbol I am willing to allow them some wiggle room on the cognitive front, but do they really think that politicians are going to come along who are any more tailored to their needs than St. Sarah of the North? Really?
Guys, I hate to break it to y’all, but to find someone who is actually willing to run for office and who is as frothingly, virulently anti-woman as you’re asking for, you’re probably going to have to start recruiting in Iran. Okay, or Florida.
Nonetheless, it is so nice to hear a good, squealing dog-fight coming from over there among the ranks of the Tea Bag Army. Their pain and disarray are to me like drops of the sweetest nectar, squeezed from the most precious of fruits. Ah, delicious.

the farm i grew up on was one of the few places in the lower 48 where you could still see nesting bald eagles (along the wild and scenic St Croix River). Given eagles habits, I bet this eagle is taking the yummy little morsel back to feed eaglets.

As Laura & NDFG point out, the chances that the eagle is protecting the fetus from abortion is, well, nil. It is more likely trying to prevent another eagle from snatching its dinner - thus proving once again that the right-wing’s proud lack of scientific &/or natural knowledge will always create right-wing MEGA-FAIL!
