Children, Listen…

A truly great singer like Otis Redding can sing a song you’ve heard a million times before and make you feel every word like it’s the very first time.

    TRex,
It does indeed. What a great singer. That might just overcome my general aversion to Christmas music (except the kind of stuff you play on your show).

Burns..The Trinity arrived yesterday, it is quite nice..thanks again for the “Pen P0rn” links.

Wow. How much do I love me some Otis Redding…the pleading tone in his voice changes the whole song. Even though the lyrics are kind of melancholy anyway, he takes it to a whole other level. Nice find T!

Sorry, Otis Redding doesn’t do it for me. But maybe it’s because I’ve spent the morning trying to get software working that worked fine yesterday, so I can do something I’ve been trying to do for two days.

Guess I need Santa to drop by and fix it.

Thanks TRex, Otis is doin it for me. Plus very in the spirit of the season slide show.

What to get for Chris Dodd? I am thinking a really nice Parker Duofold and a bottle of Chateau Latour.

I think that is a good start. Might throw in an engraved solid gold nameplate with the rubric “Champion of Democracy” on it.

Better yet, take one of the Medals of Freedom the shrub has been passing out like party favors and give it to Dodd. He’s the most deserving of any recipient I can think of.

He won’t be a presidential contender, but I sure do like having him in the Senate, standing up to Reid and the other spineless cowards who cave and cave.

Too bad he’s not majority leader.

At some point one might think the constant caving in would result in the spineless cowards actually disappearing ;)

I am in less of a Christmas mood this year than I can ever recall being, so I’m going to pass on it, even if it is Otis, for the time being.

that having been moaned, “Ole Man Trouble” from “Otis Blue” is still one of my very favorite songs EVAR. (and if anyone in the Treehouse doesn’t have that one, well, you should. and you can find it cheap at most stores.)

  18. By annagranfors on Dec 20, 2007 6:15 pm |

oh, and e–please please PLEASE–when referring to the Idiot In Chief, it would be an enormous favor to me if you didn’t use “Boosh’. “The Mighty Boosh” is a thoroughly wonderful and utterly blameless BBC programme that deserves no linkage to Baldylovin’ McDrunky.

oh, ok. sorry, didn’t know that. I just used it cuz it’s such a convenient shorthand, with its pleasant subliminal overtones of luuuuush.

I’m on board with Baldylovin’ McDrunky, tho…..subtlety never was my strong point.

The Mighty Boosh is a great show but I still like using “Boosh” for Future Prisoner #523742 because I can’t say his name without wanting to boo him.

e–yer a doll, and I’m way premenstrual today. use whatsoever demeaning terminology you want to use. (so long as it’s demeaning.)

by way of demonstration of my foul mood, I just left a comment over on a DKos diary about how wonderful Reid is that was titled “Oh, Fuck Him.”

I’m just a bowl full of xmas cheer today. :(

I can relate. January 8 (after the holidays AND the ridiculous BCS championship game) can’t get here fast enough. What’s with these football idiots? Don’t they realize it’s basketball season?

Now, I’m off to hastily acquite birthday gifts and cards for Man-Cub, who turns 14 today.

  24. By e on Dec 20, 2007 8:20 pm |

    happy birthday to the Man-Cub!

I have one of my own who turned 9, and his sister Lioness who turned 13, both less than three weeks before this godforsaken godawful fucking annual fuckfest of an OH WHY WONT THEY LEAVE ME ALONE holiday.

    um…..did someone say “foul mood”?

  25. By e on Dec 20, 2007 8:23 pm |

and now you tell me there is *football* involved?? Sheeeyit, it’s gettin worse every year. When did that start?

Yikes! I hope TRex is gonna play something nice and soooooothing tonight on his show to calm the waters. Erm. No waters in the TReehouse…oh well, too many metaphors.

My son just got a super new job he’s been working on for a few weeks, much nicer salary, he’s a happy guy tonight and so am I. He’s nearly 42, so just goes to show that you never get over being a worried mom (or dad).

Maybe it’s the moon, but there’s a peevish mood in my house as well this evening. It might have something to do with tomorrow being the last day of school before vacation and hubby’s last day of work for 2 weeks. It could be massive sugar overload, with all the cookies and class parties and goodie bags full of chocolate goodness. Plus I realized today I buggered up the check book and might bounce the car note. And it rained all day. I need a vacation!!!

Bowling’s probably not all that bad. I’d wear an extra pair of socks if it meant the party was somewhere I didn’t have to clean up afterwards. But that’s just lazy ole me.

Relax, MM. They wear socks. Sprinkle his feet with some kind of antiseptic foot powder before he puts his socks on if you’re freaked out about it, and he’ll be fine.

I might go to San Antonio on Sunday and I am probably going to Dallas for Christmas day.

Mostly I am sleeping late, seeing my friends, blogging, and hanging out.

That is the only upside for me. I lobbied hard for Playland (arcade, putt-putt, etc) but it was a non-starter. Poor kid has a January birthday, so it’s pretty much limited to indoors.

In that case, madmommy, as there aren’t that many indoor party options (other than your house), eventually you’re bound to end up bowling one year. May as well get it over with.
